ACE confirms liaison with GEANT

At the NREN PC meeting in London on 21st March, Jim Williams confirmed that the NSF funded ACE project and GEANT would provide reciprocal transatlantic bandwidth (around 6x10G in total). This will provide capacity (some fraction) for LHCONE using GEANT PoP's in Europe. Both general purpose IP and circuit based traffic is envisaged.

How this approach will interwork with the open exchanges in Europe is not yet clear.

The presentation is here.

NREN meeting 5th April

The NRENs will meet in Paris on the 5th April to discuss a proposal for the European NREN's together with GEANT to create a set of distributed exchange points in Europe based on the GEANT infrastructure and aggregator networks (connectors in LHCONE terminology) based on NRENs.

At the NREN PC meeting in London on the 21st March it was confirmed (Klaus Ullmann) that the Geant PoP's are to act as the distributed exchange points as identified in the architecture document with the NREN's providing country aggregation.

How this approach will interwork with the open exchanges in Europe is not yet clear.
